Restoration works in the Amiantos Asbestos Mine during summer and autumn 2014
Implementation of the project “Biodiversity Conservation in Restoration and Management of the Amiantos Asbestos Mine” continued at an intensive rate during this summer and autumn.
The works currently being implemented comprise:
- Reshaping of wastes
- Transportation and deposition of topsoil – around 30.000 cubic meters of topsoil are expected to be treated this year.
- Thatching for the protection of seeds and seedlings.
- Sowing and planting of trees and shrubs. This year’s target is to establish around 5.000 trees and shrubs over an area of 5 ha.
- Sowing of cereals and leguminous plants for the needs of wildlife.
- The documentary on the mine is being prepared and the contractor promised to deliver the film in December 2014.
