Restoration works in the Amiantos Asbestos Mine during summer and autumn 2015

Implementation of the project “Biodiversity Conservation in Restoration and Management of the Amiantos Asbestos Mine” continued at an intensive rate during this summer and autumn.

The works currently being implemented comprise:

  • Reshaping of wastes
  • Transportation and deposition of topsoil
  • Thatching for the protection of seeds and seedlings.
  • Sowing and planting of trees and shrubs
  • Sowing of cereals and leguminous plants for the needs of wildlife.

Costruction of an artficial lake with capacity of 40 000 cubic metres of water. At the centre of the lake an artificial island will shaped in order to provide shelter for the birds and hydrophilic plants will be planted (plane and alder)
